Family Craugastoridae |
According to Amphibiaweb there are 120 species of Fleshbelly frogs in three genera. The family has a disjunct distribution with most of the species ranging from the Southwestern United States, through Mexico, Central America into Northwest South America. The other group is found in Southeast Brazil and was probably isolated by the uplift of the Andes. Craugastorids range in size from the diminutive Craugastor pygmaeus with a SVL of 18 mm through to 110 mm in C. pelorus. The family all lay direct development eggs with varying levels of parental care.
