Family Dipsadidae

The family Dipsadidae is relatively new. Previously many of these rear-fanged snakes were included in the family Colubridae. I have had trouble finding informaton about the family even though there are several species lists available. The reptile data base shows that there are currently 754 species that are conisdered to be dipsadids.

SNAKE 4987 Geophis downsi Savage's earth snake, Las Cruces, Costa Rica. This snake has (apparently) only been seen once previously. These shots are believed to be the only ones in existence of a live specimen.
