Family Lemuridae

There are currently 21 known species of "true" lemurs distributed amongst five genera. Two species of giant lemur became extinct after the arrival of humans on Madagascar, the only place lemurs are found. They are medium-sized mostly arboreal animals although ring-tailed lemurs frequently forage on the ground. Most species are highly sociable. They are endangered by increasing loss of habitat.
