Ryan Photographic - Sesarmidae - Land and mangrove crabs
Family Sesarmidae
The family Sesarmidae currently consists of around 324 species in 33 genera. While most sesarmids are mangrove and shore-dwelling, there are some species that are almost entirely terrestrial. The mangrove dwelling species are important recyclers of mangrove leaf nutrients. There ten species of sesarmid crabs on Jamaica where they occupy a variety of habitats with considerable endemism.
I have co-authored a paper on the presence of Sesarmops impressus (Now described as Sesarmops atrorubens) on Fiji's Taveuni island. You can look at it here.
Peter Ng et al recently published a paper (2020) which described several new species of Sesarmops (including S. imperator and S. atrorubens) below. You can access that here.

Unidentified orange-clawed land crab

Unidentified orange-clawed land crab, male, Taveuni, Fiji - 0759. I don't think this is Metasesarma aubryi (see above). But if it is, it is a new record from Fiji.

Unidentified orange-clawed land crab, presumed female-0777. She appears to be missing eyes!
