Family Tetrarogidae |
According to FishBase there are 40 species of the Tetrarogidae in 17 genera. The waspfishes are a group of laterally compressed, bottom-living fishes. They possess venomous spines. The species depicted here, Ablabys macracanthus, lives in shallow water, almost always in pairs. Like the leaf scorpionfish, individuals will rock from side to side in response to stimulation.The family is closely related to the Scorpaenidae.
